Here we are, visit Belfast in 24 hours!
How to get there
Belfast has 2 airports: Belfast International Airport (BFS) and the smaller George Best Airport (BHD).
The first one, and biggest, it’s served from the main low-cost airlines. It is 45 minutes by bus away from the city centre. A single ride costs 7,50 £. The bus stop is opposite the terminal exit, is really easy to find it.
The second one, it’s used mainly from British and Aer Lingus, it doesn’t offer so many destinations. There are city buses connecting it with the city centre.
If you are coming from Dublin, you can travel to Belfast by bus (2-3 hours) the price is around 23 euros both ways. If you don’t have problems with the budget, there are also trains connecting the two cities.
Where to sleep
The average price for a Hotel room (2 people) in Belfast is 50 euro.
There are, of course, cheaper option like hostels (starting at 12£ for person/night) and Airbnb.
I used Airbnb, where I could find a Room for 2 at only 17 euro (Link here). It’s not the best room/house where I’ve ever been but to sleep one night is not bad, there is a supermarket close along with several bus stops.
Money
Northern Ireland, is part of the UK. The currency over there is GBP (Pounds).
There are several exchange bureaux in all the city centre, but if don’t want to deal with them just take your Revolut with you.
Public Transport
The cost of a daily ticket is 3,95£ for adults. The city is well connected with buses and they operate quite well.
If you buy a Belfast Visitor Pass, free transports are included. The two-day pass is 11£, it includes also discounts on local attractions (6,50£ for 1 day).
As always, I strongly suggest to walk around the city. Why? I’ll tell you after food section.
Food
Where and what to eat?
It’s plenty of interesting places, all around the centre, where to seat and have a nice meal.
Due to the fact that I’m a Fish&Chips addicted, my suggestion is the best Fish&Chips restaurant in Belfast:
Fish City
It is situated in the middle of the city centre, on the main street. Inside the atmosphere is nice and the staff is really gentle. The furniture reflects the name of the place, is all in theme with the sea and the fish, also the smell. The menu is not big but is well articulated.
I had a Fisherman burger (the one in the photo). The standard Fish&Chips is only 9,95£.
What to see/do
To be honest, Belfast does not offer as much as Dublin in terms of touristic attractions. The reason you should visit Belfast is its recent history.
As you will see, the city is still divided in two. Walking around the neighborhoods you’ll see tons of amazing murals. That murals, better than a History book, explain every single fight there was there. It is really suggestive.
The City Hall, the Beacon of Hope and The Big Fish are the other main attractions in the city.
A personal suggestion: from the roof of the Victoria Square shopping center there is a nice view of the city.
What to avoid? The Titanic Museum. It is not worth the price.
If you’re planning a longer visit to Belfast, you must go north. Giant’s Causeway and Dark Hedges are a must see.
