Best Green Hostel Warsaw

Best Green Hostel Warsaw, 2017 edition: Chillout Hostel!

Poland is not famous for the attention to the environment, for this reason, I wasn’t sure if to include it in this category.

Then thanks to a 0,50 flight from Milan to Warsaw (soon on the blog), I had the opportunity to verify by myself. Moreover, I wanted also to prove that there are good realities, even in the most polluted cities, that are trying to change things. The research for the Best Green Hostel in Warsaw was not so easy, there are many new hostels in the city. I decided to pick Chillout Hostel, because of the atmosphere, the modern design and efficiency.

Location 4,5/5

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

Chillout Hostel is located in a dynamic neighbourhood, plenty of restaurants, bars and services. It is only 12 minutes of walking away from the Palace of Culture and the main train/bus station. The perfect location to explore the city, in fact, all the main landmark points of the city, are at the same distance. Maybe getting to Praga may be a little hard, but the tram stop is only 5 minutes away from the hostel.

Warsaw isn’t a wide city, that’s really good if you want to explore it by foot. (strongly suggested)

All around the hostel is plenty of services like supermarkets and restaurants and cafes, as I said above, the neighbourhood is perfect if you are looking for some fun during your stay. It’s plenty of Bar and Clubs that are open all night long, especially on the weekend. But, at the same time, the hostel is always quiet, even being in the center, so you can perfectly enjoy your stay.

Rooms 5/5

Chillout hostel is offering different typologies of rooms:

  • Private Rooms with shared or private bathroom

  • 4 beds dorm with private bathroom

  • Big 6 people dorms with shared bathrooms

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

  • A full 7 people apartment. (It looks incredible, I just want to come back with some friends just to try it.)

I had the opportunity to stay for two night in the 4 beds dorm with private bathroom, in the middle of the common room (this was funny in the morning, getting off of the room in the middle of the breakfast area). The room was new, equipped with lockers and big and comfortable bunk beds. As they said, most of the rooms have been just renewed, it is evident that they are modern and with a nice design. Being modern means including services that may seem banal but it’s hard to find elsewhere, like a plug on each bed or space where to sit inside the room.

The common spaces are incredible. You get everything you may need, big couches where to relax, a table where to work and a fully equipped kitchen where to find the chef that’s hiding inside you. Even here, all the furniture are brand new, with a vintage hipster design. Maybe it’s not so eco-friendly but at least it’s good for the eyes.

Cleanness 4,5/5

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

During my two days stay, the hostel always looked clean and organised. From the common toilets to the kitchen, everything was impeccable. The common areas are being cleaned every day, I’m not sure if the same it’s happening in the rooms, maybe it’s due to the guests and how long are they staying in. Overall, this aspect is more than positive.

Atmosphere 4/5

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

The atmosphere inside the Chillout Hostel is great, the general mood it’s mainly chill (after all it’s still chillout hostel), the common areas are never too noisy or too crowded, and that’s perfect if you just want to relax at the end of a long day in Warsaw. The staff is always polite and gentle, even at late night. I had my checkout at 2 am and there was any problem.

At Chillout, you’ll not find only backpackers or travellers, but it’s a hostel that also good for families and workers. This last point may be positive or negative, according to the kind of traveler you are.

Services 5/5

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

This score was easy for me to assign, why? Free good coffee anytime in the kitchen of the hostel. This leads straight to a 5 out of 5.

If you are not a coffee addicted, as I do, the hostel is offering many services:

  • Free App to discover the city
  • A selection of free event, inside the hostel, every day of the week (really cool)
  • Free Lockers in the rooms
  • Map
  • Free Coffee/Cappuccino
  • Towel (5 zlotych)
  • Breakfast (10 zlotych)
  • Laundry (not free)

To be honest, the breakfast it may be not worthed 10 zlotych, this may be the only negative point of the services.

Prices 5/5

The prices are really competitive, the shared rooms are starting at 7 euro/night for a person, meanwhile the private ones at 30 euro/night.

For the services and the quality of the structure, the prices are really under the average for the city. The Chillout Hostel can be defined as a sustainable hostel from an economic point of view.

Sustainable Score 4/5

There are small changes that could be applied, to make this hostel a perfect green hostel. Simply by switching to a system of recycling or just by putting some signal inviting the guests to save water in the toilets could be a nice step forward to make this hostel as a perfect eco-friendly hostel. I appreciate the good start, but there is still some work to do.

Best Green Hostel Warsaw

The Best Green Hostel in Warsaw?

Yes. The structure level is high, the Chillout Hostel is a mix between a backpacker hostel and a young hotel.

It offers an amazing quality-price ratio. The comfort of the rooms and the atmosphere are almost unbeatable, along with the position in the hearth of Warsaw.

There may be still improvments to do in the eco-friendly part but I’m confident that the problems will be fixed soon.

At the end, Chillout Hostel is my best Green Hostel in Warsaw!
