During my last Sustainable EurAsitic Tour, I have always been searching for green structures and activities. The first city in which I arrived was Vienna and I couldn’t have asked for a better start for the tour.
While getting around Wien you can easily appreciate its cleanness and its green spirit. A big variety of parks, a great attention to details and many sustainable structures. One of those structures is the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle. A green oasis in the centre of Vienna, offering one of the most complete offers for eco-friendly travellers, that are looking for more than the”regular” hotel. But is the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle the Best Green Hotel in Wien?

Location 3,5/5

Located near to the Wien West Station the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is in a quiet and central area. The area is plenty of public transportation and services. If you arrive or depart from the Wien Central Station the situation will be a bit more complicated, in fact, there is only a slow tram connecting the two places and the journey may take up to 40-45 minutes. Getting back to the positive aspects, in front of the hotel there is a Billa Supermarket and the Mariahilfer Strasse, the longest shopping street in Vienna, is also right around the corner with a huge offer of restaurants and shops.

The Stadthalle Boutique Hotel is dislocated in 2-3 buildings, an older part that keeps all the traditional architecture style of Vienna and a modern side that has been built according to the most modern eco-friendly standards and it is even self-sustainable. One thing that I loved the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is that each floor has a specific thematic, and according to this theme the rooms are decorated with re-used elements. In my specific case, the theme of my floor was bikes and biking, perfectly matching the Sustainable Travel style. But there are other themes such as books and music. Moreover, in each room, there are stickers that are inviting the guest to save water, paper and be more sustainable, without being too heavy or oppressive.

Getting to the practical side of the rooms, and how they are composed, mine was really spacious with a superlative bathroom. Moreover, I had some small desk and an interesting closet made up from old bike baskets. I saw also some of the other rooms and I should say that the attention to details is maniacal, the design is researched in all of them. But if you are looking for extreme luxe this may not be enough for you.

In a boutique hotel the lack of a SPA or a Pool may be a huge gap but here, in exchange, you will get a free 100% organic breakfast every morning! You will have the possibility to taste most of the typical Austrian Organic and Local product during your breakfast. The buffet breakfast is served in the bar close to the reception and in the beautiful garden of the hotel. Even the honey is made up directly on the roof of the hotel!

Regarding the other services, all the basic services are available. Such as laundry, 24h reception and newspapers. They even saved my Sustainable EurAsiatic Tour, thanks to the reception always open that was able to pick up a package for me containing my passport. The staff is exceptional, ready to help and always with a big smile.

Nothing to say here, the service is pretty good and well organised. The staff is really professional, a demonstration of this is the fact that they were waiting for me to leave for the breakfast before to come in and tide up my room.

Atmosphere & Mood 4,5/5

Entering the hotel you will leave behind yourself the stress and the noise of the city, the sensation I had it was the one of entering a green oasis in the middle of Wien. The huge and beautiful garden along with the always smiling and positive staff made me feel relaxed and happy. The hotel is always quiet, perfect if you are looking for a place to relax or you just want to have a business meeting.

Prices 3,5/5

Unfortunately, the only negative point I found in the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is the one related to the prices. The night fare is closer to a 4-5 stars premium hotel than to a 3-4 stars one and considered the offered services and the lack of some essential it may be a bit overpriced. From the other hand, breakfast is often included and this adds a lot of value to the price. Moreover, the price system is dynamic and smart so if you are lucky you can find really good deals.

Superb. I didn’t give 5 out of 5 just because the structure is not still fully self-powered but this hotel should be an example for every other structure. They have an incredible commitment for the environment protection and the green energy. In fact, the solar panels on the roof are powering half of the structure and providing hot water. Moreover, in the rooms, there are stickers that have the goal to create awareness among the guests on the resources utilization. The absence of Minibar to save energy is the clear example of this policies.

Also the urban garden, in the centre of Wien, is a way to prove this sustainability commitment and a way to minimise the impact of the hotel in a huge city as Wienand example that should be replicated in all the cities. Again, superb.
